Where is Key West and How Do You Get There?

Key West has long been one of Florida’s most popular vacation destinations, but how exactly do you get here? Traveling to Key West is easier than you might think. Whether you’d like to fly into the Key West Airport or drive to our Key West condo rentals, it’s easy to make the trip and start having the vacation of your dreams!

Closest Airports

If you want to fly directly into the Key West Airport, search for flights into Key West International (EYW). This airport is located right on the island and offers flights from Delta, United, American, and other airlines.

It’s also possible to get to the island by flying into Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, or even Atlanta. You will have a bit of driving to do, however; the closest of these airports to Key West is Miami, and it will still be a journey of 165 miles. The drive from Fort Lauderdale is about 190 miles, traveling from Orlando takes almost 400 miles, and the drive from Tampa is about 425 miles.

Driving to Key West

If you’re wondering how to get to Key West from any of the locations we just mentioned, it’s quite an easy journey. If you’re heading in from the Miami International Airport, you’ll start out on LeJeune Road South to Highway 836 West. Get onto the Florida Turnpike South toward Key West, which ends at US 1 in Florida City. Then, you simply follow this road as far as it goes, and you’ll be dropped right into Key West!

If you’re heading in from the Fort Lauderdale area, you’ll leave the airport and head toward 595 West. Use this road to get to the Florida Turnpike, then follow the signs directing you to the Florida Keys and Key West. It’s really that simple!

Do be aware that the Florida Keys strictly enforce their speed limits, so be sure to obey all posted traffic signs. Also, you’ll probably want to have your camera out, as this is considered one of the most scenic drives in the United States!
